Challenger emerges in 23rd Ward aldermanic race

A challenger has emerged to take on Ald. Silvana Tabares in the 23rd Ward in next February’s aldermanic elections.
Leonardo Rojas-Banda is collecting signatures to be on the ballot. He will be holding two campaign kickoff events this weekend in West Elsdon.
Rojas-Banda grew up in West Lawn. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 2016.
An attorney, he most recently served in the Illinois Governor’s Office, starting as a Freedom of Information Act Officer and earning a promotion to Assistant General Counsel.
“This campaign is about bringing someone deeply invested in this neighborhood, Southwest Side through and through, into City Hall,” he said on his website. “It will be my mission to ensure that every neighbor feels heard, supported, and represented. I truly believe that when our neighbors succeed, our entire community succeeds. Every alderman should remember that we serve because the community has placed its trust in us. I would be honored to earn that trust and have the privilege of serving you all.”
