Orland Park’s cost to clean up from the two tornadoes that touched down in the village within the last two months could top $1 million, village officials said at Monday night’s village board meeting.
Between overtime costs for village departments, including public works and police, the village could see an OT bill that is upwards of $1 million.
Village officials said they are reaching out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal and state disaster agencies for financial assistance in covering the costs.
Nearly 100 residents were affected by the tornadoes, as they were left without power and electricity for days after both the July 27 and August 11 twisters. One of those residents was Susan Lahey, who lives in the Fairway subdivision and was without power for days as Commonwealth Edison worked to restore power to her and many of her neighbors.
Lahey spoke Monday night and asked the board to “work with us” and contact ComEd to find out “what they can do to fix the faulty connection that causes us to lose power.”
“We are asking you to advocate on behalf of the residents who continually lose power because of the faulty connection and get Com Ed to fix it,” she said. “This has got to stop. We are asking for accountability from Com Ed. Please help us.”
Mayor Jim Dodge told her that the village would reach out to the utility for an answer — and — hopefully, help in mitigating the problem going forward.
