Car burglary on W. 85th Place
Elysis McKinney, 20, was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle in the early hours of May 23 after police said he broke into a 2013 Hyundai sedan in the 7300 block of West 85th Place.
Police said they saw two suspicious men wearing ski masks, gloves and a backpack near 79th Street and Oketo Avenue. While trying to speak with them, both subjects fled on foot. Elysis was apprehended a short time later hiding in bushes on 79th Street and Frontage Road.
While being interviewed, Elysis admitted to breaking into a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, police said. McKinney brought officers to the car he admitted to breaking into. The car had a damaged ignition shroud, police said.
Bumped into a squad car
Walter Carbajal, 27, was charged with not having a valid driver’s license May 23 after he was found slumped over inside his vehicle around 3:45 a.m. in the 7800 block of Oconto Ave., police said.
Police patrolling the area observed a car parked at a stop sign for a prolonged period of time. A second squad arrived and parked in front of Carbajal’s vehicle. Upon awakening, Carbajal’s 2016 Nissan rolled forward and bumped the front of the squad car.
Carbajal’s car was towed.
