Vehicle hits building, flees
An employee at Casa De Montecristo, 1332 W. 55th St., reported a black BMW SUV backed into the building while exiting a parking spot and left the scene around 5 p.m. May 29.
After the offending vehicle was identified and the registered owner contacted, the owner made arrangements with the business to repair the damage.
Hit and run at fitness business
A woman reported her vehicle was struck while parked at LA Fitness, 5918 S. La Grange Road, between 5:15 and 7:05 p.m. May 29. The back bumper and driver’s side taillight were damaged.
$4,000 plumbing press stolen from trailer
A man entered a trailer parked in the 1200 block of West Plainfield Road and stole a Milwaukee plumbing press valued at about $4,000 at 3:53 p.m. May 31.
The offender was wearing dark pants and a dark T-shirt. He fled in an older Chrysler minivan not displaying license plates, the victim told police.
35 airbags stolen from cars at Napleton Mazda
An employee of Napleton Mazda, 6060 S. La Grange Road, reported at 8:56 a.m. May 31 that 35 airbags had been stolen from vehicles parked overnight.
The investigation revealed two offenders arrived at 2:52 a.m. driving a gray Honda CRV.
The owner of the offending vehicle was later found to be out of the country on vacation and unaware that their vehicle had been stolen and used in the incident. The vehicle was recovered in Chicago and processed for evidence by Countryside detectives, who are investigating.
Catalytic converter stolen from Ford F750
An employee at ILLCO, 9590 W. 55th St., reported a catalytic converter was stolen from a Ford F750 while it was parked in the business parking lot between May 22 and June 1.
Identity theft swipes $9,800
A resident of the 9700 block of 57th Street told police someone made an unauthorized transaction for $9,800 on her bank account on May 28. Police are investigating.
Phone stolen from grocery store
An employee at Tony’s Fresh Foods, 6704 Joliet Road, left a store-owned Samsung cell phone unattended on a display at 3:10 p.m. June 2.
A man wearing a red baseball hat, gray shirt, blue shorts, and black shoes was observed on surveillance tape picking up the phone and leaving the store. He drove away in a silver Toyota SUV.
Car stolen by someone using app
The owner of a 2022 Toyota Corolla told police that on April 27, he agreed to rent his car to someone using the Turo app, with the agreement that it would be returned May 4.
The last time he saw it was when he parked it in a lot in the 9800 block of West 55th Street. He reported it stolen to police on June 3.
High-speed chase after attempted break-in
An officer on patrol observed two men wearing all black attempting to break into Little Joe’s, 20 E. Plainfield Road, at 5:30 a.m. June 5.
When the offenders observed the marked patrol car, they entered a black Acura with no license plates and fled at a high rate of speed.
The officer pursued the vehicle to the northbound ramp for Interstate 55 at LaGrange Road but terminated the pursuit due to the excessive speeds.
If arrested, they will be charged with attempted burglary, criminal damage to property, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
La Grange man arrested after incident at tavern
Cooper R. Schodrof, 22, of La Grange, was arrested on two charges at Kenny’s Irish Pub, 917 W. 55th St., at 11:59 p.m. May 29, police said.
Schodrof became upset after he was asked to leave the business. He pushed an employee and broke a door as he was walking out. Once outside, he punched a window, causing it to shatter.
He was charged with battery and criminal damage to property.
Zion man charged with drunken driving
After an officer observed a Chevrolet Corvette swerving in the northbound lanes of the 5400 block of East Avenue, he pulled it over for investigation at 4:13 p.m. May 30.
The officer noticed the driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver failed field sobriety tests and later took a breathalyzer test, which showed his BAC to be .163, well above the legal limit of .08, police said.
Ronald Bowles, 64, of Zion, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, and driving without insurance, police said.
