Dr. Brandon Cotter has been named superintendent of Argo Community High School in Summit.
He officially replaced former Superintendent William Toulios, who was placed on administrative reassignment in April 2025. Toulios resigned his position in November 2025 after criticism over personal charges made on a district credit card.
Cotter will serve in the dual role of superintendent and principal of the Summit school through the 2026–2027 school year. His appointment became official May 20.
Cotter has spent the past 15 years at Argo in various leadership positions, most recently as interim superintendent, principal, and director of special education. During his tenure, the district has increased college matriculation rates, scholarship attainment, and Illinois State Scholars recognition, while expanding college and career readiness programs and extracurricular offerings.
Before joining Argo, Cotter worked as a school psychologist at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, where he provided evaluation services, counseling, and behavioral interventions. He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Trinity Christian College.
Cotter coached varsity boys volleyball at Homewood-Flossmoor from 2008 to 2013 and served as an assistant coach for boys and girls volleyball from 2007 to 2013. He holds a doctorate in interdisciplinary leadership from Governors State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Concordia University Chicago, and degrees in school psychology and educational psychology from National Louis University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from DePaul University.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue my career in this new role within such an amazing school and community,” Cotter said. “Argo has always been a special place because of its students, families, staff, and community support. I am excited to continue working alongside an outstanding team of professionals as we continue to enhance opportunities for our students and build upon the momentum and success our district has achieved together.”
Argo High School Board President Jennifer Grenier said the board is pleased to share the news.
“The board is confident in his leadership and looks forward to working collaboratively as we begin this next chapter for the district,” Grenier said.
