Gianna Araujo-Dominguez, a freshman from Summit, dominated the SSC Conference wrestling tournament at 120 pounds, earning two pins and finishing with a technical fall in the championship match.

The Argo High School board recognized Araujo-Dominguez on Wednesday, April 15, for the achievement. She entered the tournament as the top seed with a 17-2 record.

“Girls wrestling continues to be one of the fastest-growing sports in the IHSA, and Gianna is a perfect example of the talent and dedication driving that growth,” Athletic Director Ryan Skendzel told the board.

“What makes this accomplishment even more special is that Gianna is a freshman. To see a young athlete perform with such confidence, determination, and skill speaks volumes about her work ethic and her future potential,” he said.

Araujo-Dominguez participated in the Heritage Middle School wrestling program before joining the Argo girls’ wrestling team.
