Gregory E. “Gregg” Nowak, a polka musician known for his concertina playing, died
He is survived by three sons: Richard Nowak, Russell Nowak and Ronald Nowak; five grandchildren: Corinne, Ricky, Caitlynn, Ella and Reid; three siblings: Edward Nowak, Teresa Klimek-Downs and JoAnn Mazurek; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Nowak, after 53 years of marriage, and his sister, Marian Pietruszka.
Nowak was born May 22, 1948, to Alice and Ed Nowak. He was a gifted storyteller who worked various jobs throughout his life. He was passionate about polka music and played concertina in bands since his teenage years, becoming a respected figure in the polka community.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Chicago.
Additional visitation will be held Monday, April 13, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
A procession will follow to Resurrection Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum, where Mr. Nowak will be entombed beside his wife.
