Shot and killed on Pulaski
A 42-year-old man was shot in the back of the head and killed as he traveled in a vehicle in the 4500 block of South Pulaski at about 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8. Ismael Yanez Jr. was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No one is in custody.
Woman slain during argument on Cicero
A 39-year-old woman was shot in the neck and back and killed in a crime that occurred in the 7700 block of South Cicero at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. Virginia Rios was pronounced dead after she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police were told by a witness that Rios was engaged in an argument with a man who then shot her and ran away. No one is in custody.
Two men shot at Kedzie parking lot
Two men ages 22 and 44 were shot as they stood in a parking lot in the 5300 block of South Kedzie at 2:03 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The older man was shot in the chest and was listed in serious condition. The younger man sustained a bullet wound to his back and was listed in good condition. No one is in custody.
Driver shot in the face
A 31-year-old man was shot in the face as he drove a vehicle in the 6100 block of South Central Park at 8:51 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition. Police said the shooters fired from a nearby sidewalk. No one is in custody.
Pedestrian shot on Western
A 26-year-old man was shot multiple times as he walked down a sidewalk in the 7200 block of South Western at 3:07 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Police said the shooter fled in a black SUV. No one is in custody.
Shot in the back in Back of the Yards
A 24-year-old man was shot in the upper back as he rode as a passenger in a vehicle in the 4400 block of South Wood at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8. The victim was transported to University of Chicago Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. There is no one in custody.
Man shot near 68th/Claremont
Police are investigating the case of a man discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the 6800 block of South Claremont just before 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. No one is in custody.
Hunt armed robbers in Back of the Yards
Police are hunting a trio of criminals wanted in connection with a pair of armed robberies that occurred around daybreak Thursday, Dec. 7. Crime scenes include the 1900 block of West 47th Street at 5:35 a.m., and the 4800 block of South Winchester about 10 minutes later. The robbers waved handguns and were described as black boys or men ages 15-30 wearing black ski masks and driving a red Nissan Maxima. Those with useful information to share about the crimes are asked to call CPD Area 1 detectives at (312) 747-8384 and refer to crime pattern P23-1-229.
Charged with 8 burglaries, while on trial for burglary
An 18-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with eight count of burglary after he was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 6 .
Vernon T. Edwards, of the 7100 block of South Talman, was charged as what police described as a several people who burglarized businesses at seven locations:
• 4200 block of West 55th Street, June 9 and Aug. 22.
• 5200 block of South Archer, June 17.
• 4300 block of West 51st Street, June 17.
• 900 block of West 35th Street, June 23.
• 5000 block of South Archer, June 26.
• 4400 block of South Archer, June 26.
• 6500 block of South Pulaski, Sept. 17.
Police declined to name the businesses.
Edwards was arrested at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, 2650 S. California, as he awaited trial on earlier charges of burglary. At 2:27 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, Edwards was arrested after a CPD canine unit reportedly found him hiding in a back yard at 4418 S. Troy after a police chase. He was charged with burglarizing Market Square, 4701 N. Lincoln; #1 Chop Suey, 2550 W. Addison; AT&T store, 1724 W. Lawrence; Franco’s Ristorante, 300 W. 31st St.; and New Archview Restaurant, 3480 S. Archer.
He was apprehended at the Troy address after police reportedly chased him.
Release was denied, and Edwards is in the custody of the Cook County Department of Corrections. His next scheduled court date is Jan. 9.
Charge man in carjacking
An 18-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with armed robbery and vehicular invasion after he was arrested at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at his home in the 6800 block of South Oakley.
Frederick Page allegedly is one of the offenders who took property at gunpoint from a 33-year-old woman Nov. 20 in the 700 block of North Trumbull.
Page was due in court earlier this week.
Claim migrant stole merchandise at Ford City
A 30-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he was arrested at Ford City at 6:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6.
Herick Nunez was apprehended without incident. A CPD spokesman declined to name the store or say what was allegedly stolen.
Further, the spokesman said Nunez’s home address is the 1700 block of South State, but a source in the neighborhood said Nunez is a migrant living at the CPD Central (1st) District police station, 1718 S. State.
Bust man on shoplifting rap at Ford City
A 35-year-old Rogers Park man was charged with retail theft after he was arrested at Ford City at 12:06 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Jamal C. Lloyd, of the 1400 block of West Howard, was apprehended without incident.
A CPD spokesman declined to name the store or say what was allegedly stolen.
According to public records, Lloyd was arrested three times by CPD in 2020, each time charged with violating an order of protection.
Claim man stole Amazon truck
A 22-year-old West Lawn man was charged with theft after he was arrested in front of 3621 W. 65th St. at 4:11 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13.
Juan Daniel Saines Leandos, of the 3700 block of West 65th Street, allegedly stole a delivery truck while its driver stepped away to bring a package to a home. A CPD spokesman said the driver saw the truck pulling away east on 65th Street. He ran after it, calling his employer at the same time, to report the crime. When the truck stopped, the driver caught up and detained Saines Leandros until police arrived, the spokesman added.
The spokesman declined to name the company that owned the truck, but a source in West Lawn said it was an Amazon truck. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was added after police frisked Saines Leanos and reportedly found pills believed to be Xanax. According to public records, Saines Leanos was arrested by CPD during a traffic stop at 13th and State in January 2023 and charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
Say teen trespassed at Curie
An 18-year-old Brighton Park man was charged with criminal trespass to property after he was arrested in the 3800 block of West 46th Street at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Uriel Rios, of the 4300 block of South Rockwell, allegedly trespassed at Curie High School shortly before his arrest a few blocks north of the campus.
According to public records, Rios was arrested by CPD last June near 46th and Washtenaw and charged with battery.
Hit man with pellet-gun rap
A 35-year-old man from suburban Hodgkins was charged with illegal possession of a pellet gun after he was arrested by officers responding to a “man with a gun” call at 4385 S. Archer at 2:54 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6.
Jhony Argueta was reportedly found to be in possession of an unloaded pellet gun, a CPD spokesman said. A charge of obstructing identification was added after Argueta allegedly gave police a fake ID.
According to public records, Argueta was arrested three times by CPD in 2021, each time charged with domestic battery and once with violating an order of protection.
Charge Brighton Park man with DUI
A 56-year-old Brighton Park man was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he was arrested in front of 3546 W. 43rd St. at 5:53 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12.
Felipe Reyna-Sanchez, of the 4600 block of South Richmond, also was cited for driving without insurance.
Bust convicted felon on 51st Street
A 31-year-old man from suburban North Riverside was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon after he was arrested during a traffic stop in front of 6031 W. 51st St. at 4:57 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19.
Ruben Barajas, of the 7700 block of West 26th Street, allegedly carried a loaded handgun in his vehicle. He also was cited for driving without carrying a licensed and driving an uninsured vehicle.
According to public records, Barajas has been arrested five times by CPD since 2016, on charges that included two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm in October 2017, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
Claim man broke home’s window
A 37-year-old South Shore man was charged with criminal damage to property after he was arrested in the 6100 block of West 63rd Place at 3:21 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20.
Ethell Day, of the 2200 block of East 75th Street, allegedly broke the front window of a home during a domestic dispute, a CPD spokesman said.
