Seeking donations of toys, clothing
By Tim Hadac
A Garfield Ridge Boy Scout is seeking donations to help victims or domestic and or sexual violence, as well as people with substance abuse disorders.

Andrew Salinas, of Troop 810 (sponsored by Our Lady of the Snows Parish), is working to collect new or gently used clothing, as well as new toys, now through Sept. 6.
Donations will be given to Mutual Ground, a non-profit in Aurora that has aided individuals and families since 1975.
Clothing and toys may be dropped off during normal hours of operation at the Garfield Ridge Branch Library, 6348 S. Archer; the office of 23rd Ward Ald. Silvana Tabares, 6247 S. Archer; and the Archer Heights Branch Library, 5055 S. Archer.
Salinas also accepts donations from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Midway Chamber of Commerce farmers market, held in the parking lot of Mayfield Banquets, 6072 S. Archer.
Next month, Salinas will need to summarize and present his project to a committee of adults who will evaluate it and decide whether he becomes an Eagle Scout, Boy Scouting’s top rank. It is a feat accomplished by less than 10% of Scouts.
A graduate of Our Lady of the Snows School, Salinas is a sophomore at Nazareth Academy, where he plays on the soccer and lacrosse teams.
