Carjacker beaten with own gun, prosecutors say
Victim turns tables on alleged attacker

A Garfield Ridge man was charged with attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking and attempted robbery after he was arrested at 56th and Kolin at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.
Richard Rubio, of the 5400 block of South Latrobe, allegedly used a handgun to try and carjack a man and a woman.

According to published reports, Rubio was wearing a ski mask when he allegedly pulled a handgun and ordered a man and woman out of their vehicle. The woman complied, but the man—the vehicle’s driver—reportedly fought back, wrestling the gun from Rubio’s hand and beating him with it, prosecutors said.
As the man held Rubio in a chokehold, the woman dialed 911 to summon police, who arrived a short time later.
According to published reports, Rubio’s defense attorney said he is trying to get a truck driving license.
Judge Mary Marubio set bond at $100,000. Rubio could not post the required 10% of bond, so he remained in custody of the Cook County. He was due in court last Monday.
According to public records, Rubio was arrested by CPD in September 2017 near 52nd and Leamington and charged with burglary.
