Oak Lawn Chamber to sponsor Restaurant Week
By Bob Bong
More than a dozen restaurants have signed up to take part in the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Restaurant Week in June.
“This is a new endeavor for us,” said Anne Fritz, chamber executive director. “This will be our unofficial kick off to summer.”
Fritz said the chamber’s marketing committee came up with idea, which will run from June 12 to June 26.
“There were discussions about a Taste of Oak Lawn, but we decided to start small with a restaurant week. It was a happy compromise,” she said. “The restaurant owners have been very excited about the idea.”
Fritz said the idea is to feature many of Oak Lawn’s eating and drinking establishments, and possible entice some to join the chamber.
“Maybe some establishments that are not members will see the promotion and decide to join,” Fritz said.
“For the first year, we decided to feature chamber members that wanted to participate. We have 30-35 restaurants in the chamber,” she said.
Participating restaurants are offering discounts or special menu items to patrons who show a special flyer the chamber has prepared.
“You have to show the flyer to get the special,” she said. “You can print it out or just show it on your phone.”
As for the specials? “That’s up to the participating restaurant.”
And what about Taste of Oak Lawn? “Maybe in a couple of years,” she said with a laugh.
The chamber has an up-to-date list of participating restaurants on its website at https://www.oaklawnchamber.com/.
