Saturday blue skies cleared the way for the final SouthWest Suburban Conference boys tennis matches as Stagg hosted Andrew, Lincoln-Way Central, and Lincoln-Way West at Moraine Valley Community College.
The Chargers started the season losing five of their first games but finished the regular season 10-10-1. They finished third at the conference meet with 21 points behind Andrew (34 points) and Lincoln-Way Central (31 points).
It was the final SWSC tennis competition. The conference will break up after this season and the teams, other than Bolingbrook, will join a new league along with several West Suburban schools.
Stagg head coach John Daniels talked about the bumps along the way but could not be happier with how the team has been performing as of late.
“I am proud of their third-place finish,” Daniels said.
All-Conference selections Jude Welsch and Omar Khalil finished second No. 2 doubles.
Joel Droesch and Kristian Zajac took third in No. 1 doubles.
Twin teammates Nick and Seamus Keough placed third in No. 3 doubles.
“The twins are great kids,” Daniels said. “They obviously have great team chemistry.”
Sophomore Emerson Kim took third place in second singles. He finished 16-4 this season.
“He really grew a lot as a player,” Daniels said.
Stagg now heads to sectionals at Hersey High School.
