La Grange has received a $500,000 community project grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support storm and sanitary sewer inspection and cleaning.
The grant was secured through the efforts of U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, was announced at the Sept. 14 village board meeting.
The village owns and maintains approximately 360,000 linear feet of sanitary, storm, and combined sewers across roughly 25 square miles of roads.
The televising and inspection work will be performed from manhole to manhole and does not require excavation.
The project is expected to inspect and maintain approximately 8.1 miles of sewer lines.
Since 2016, the village has completed similar work on approximately 57 percent of its roadways.
The board approved a contract with Pipe View America of Chicago for the work. Pipe View America submitted the lowest bid at $26,880.
The board authorized up to $400,000 in additional televising and cleaning work to maximize available grant funding. The remainder will reimburse engineering and inspection costs.
Impacts to residents will be limited to reduced speeds through work zones and, in a small number of cases, temporary restrictions on access to individual properties when a manhole is located within or adjacent to a driveway.
The project has been included in the village’s approved fiscal year 2026-27 capital fund budget.
