Józef Maciaszek, 90, of Chicago, passed away peacefully Sept. 17, 2026. He was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Wysoka, Poland.
Józef lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to his faith, his family, and the many simple joys that brought him happiness. A man of deep and steady faith, he carried himself with quiet dignity and warmth. He was happiest when surrounded by his beloved wife and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the comfort of togetherness. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, his thoughtful presence, and the way he made others feel welcome and valued.
Józef had a lifelong love of wrestling and could often be found cheering on his favorites in the ring, following the sport with enthusiasm and a loyal fan’s heart. His interests reflected the spirited and engaged way he lived, finding delight in both conversation and the excitement of the moments he loved to share with others.
His family was the center of his life, and the love he shared with them was evident in everything he did. He offered encouragement, wisdom, and affection in equal measure, and his presence brought comfort across generations. The joy and advice he shared will live on through four generations and the many cherished memories they made together. His legacy is one of love freely given, laughter shared often, and a life rooted in faith and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Zofia Maciaszek; his children, Frank Maciaszek, Krystyna and Zbigniew Radoń, and Joseph and Zuzanna Maciaszek; his grandchildren, Jack and Monica Maciaszek, Agata Maciaszek, Tomasz and Katarzyna Maciaszek, Aneta and Krzysztof Blachut, Gabriela and Dariusz Metelski, and Gregory and Jessica Radoń; and his great-grandchildren, Krystian Blachut, Adrian Maciaszek, Mateusz Blachut, Anastasia Blachut, Ewelina Blachut, Paulina Metelski, Sebastian Metelski, Dominik Metelski, Emilia Radoń, Jakub Maciaszek, and Kaya Maciaszek.
Visitation: Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, 4 to 8 p.m. at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice, Illinois.
Funeral: Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026. Prayers and procession begin at 9 a.m. from the funeral home to Saint Fabian Church, 7450 W. 83rd Street, Bridgeview, Illinois, for 10 a.m. Mass.
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Illinois.
