Three District 230 high schools have been named among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report, with Carl Sandburg High School ranking highest in Illinois at No. 75 nationally.
Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park ranked No. 106 in Illinois and No. 2,566 nationally. Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills came in at No. 109 in Illinois and No. 2,631 nationally.
The rankings evaluated nearly 18,000 public high schools across the country, weighing graduation rates, college readiness, Advanced Placement participation, and state assessment performance. Sandburg posted a 90.3 overall score with a 95% graduation rate and 53% AP participation. Victor J. Andrew scored 85.7 with a 96% graduation rate. Stagg scored 85.3 with a 93% graduation rate.
Dr. Anita Huffman, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, said the rankings reflect the district’s emphasis on rigorous coursework.
“This recognition is a direct result of our focus on expanding academic opportunities, particularly through our AP and dual credit coursework,” Huffman said. “Our staff works tirelessly to create learning environments that challenge and empower every student, and seeing that commitment reflected in these metrics across Andrew, Stagg, and Sandburg is a powerful validation of their impact.”
Superintendent Dr. Bob Nolting said the recognition belongs to students, educators, and families.
“Having all three of our high schools recognized on a national level speaks directly to the dedication of our educators, the hard work of our students, and the incredible support from our district communities,” Nolting said.
