American Discovery 250 Relay will be in the Chicago Southland region on October 13-14 and is open to the public.
The American Discovery 250 Relay, a 6,800-mile cross-country relay carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence and commemorating America’s 250th Anniversary, will travel through the Chicago Southland region on October 13-14 and is open to the public.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13 the relay will travel through Frankfort, Matteson, Park Forest, Glenwood, and Lynwood (20.5 miles). The Frankfort event begins at 8 a.m. at Breidert Green, 432 West Nebraska Street, Frankfort, with kickoff events featuring music, speeches, and refreshments.
The group will leave Frankfort around 9 a.m. and hike east on Old Plank Road Trail to Matteson, with events scheduled for noon at Holden Park, 3106-3242 Holden Circle, in Matteson and Park Forest. The themed celebration, “As American As…” will provide American fare and highlight community and American sport.
Those in the relay will head north around 2 p.m. on the Thorn Creek Trail System to Glenwood, with activities planned for 5:30 p.m., at North Creek Meadow, 2234 Glenwood Lansing Road, Chicago Heights, with activities ending at approximately 6:30 p.m.
