Man charged with aggravated assault after threatening woman with knife
Greg Gontarek, 66, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police responded to a disturbance at his home in the 6000 block of South Nashville Avenue at 11:54 p.m. June 6.
A 61-year-old woman told police that Gontarek had been drinking and verbally assaulted her. He then allegedly threatened her with a knife he took from the kitchen.

Man faces two counts of domestic battery
Ruben Avitia-Cardona, 58, was charged with two counts of domestic battery after police responded to a disturbance at his home in the 3500 block of West 63rd Street at 4:50 a.m. June 6.
Police said he allegedly struck a 49-year-old woman in the face and then shoved a 21-year-old male who tried to break up the fight.

Woman arrested on aggravated battery charge
Chantell M. Jenkins, 35, was charged with aggravated battery in connection with a March 28 incident. The Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force took her into custody at 1:55 a.m. June 2 in the 3200 block of Columbus Avenue.
Police said Jenkins, who lives in the 3500 block of Columbus Avenue, was found hiding in an empty lot. She allegedly sprayed a 26-year-old woman with bear mace during an altercation on March 28 in the 2300 block of South Kedzie Avenue.

Woman charged with DUI after traffic crash
Yamling Zhao, 29, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 8:52 p.m. June 4 at Holy Cross Hospital, 2701 W. 68th St.
Police said she had been transported to the hospital following a traffic crash in the 1500 block of West 74th Street. Zhao showed signs of intoxication and admitted drinking while driving. She was also cited for transportation of open alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Woman charged with domestic battery
Elizabeth Betancourt, 37, of the 6300 block of South Maplewood Avenue, was charged with domestic battery at 7:17 p.m. June 6 at her home following an altercation with a 38-year-old man.
Police said she struck the man several times in the head and scratched his face.

Man charged after domestic incident
Juan Anibal Farfan Pugo, 39, was charged with domestic battery following an altercation with a 35-year-old woman at his home at 10:30 a.m. June 6 in the 3300 block of West 60th Place.
He told police he wanted to enter the residence to collect belongings, but an argument with the woman allegedly turned into a physical altercation. The woman also reported to police a separate incident with Pugo that occurred the previous night in the 5500 block of South Kedzie Avenue.

Man arrested for felony retail theft at Ford City
Wardell C. Whisenton, 56, of the 8200 block of South Dorchester Avenue, was charged with felony retail theft following his arrest at 12:30 p.m. June 7 at Ford City Mall, 7601 S. Cicero Ave.
He was detained after leaving a department store with merchandise worth more than $300 that he had stuffed into garbage bags. Police said he also had prior convictions for similar retail thefts.

Felon charged with illegal gun possession at traffic stop
Darius Canady, 33, of the 1100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, was charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon following a traffic stop at 12:35 a.m. June 3 in the 5500 block of South Pulaski Road.
Police said that when they pulled him over, he made “furtive movements,” indicating he was trying to hide something. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded Glock 17 handgun found under a floormat and cannabis in a side door panel. Canady was also charged with illegal possession of cannabis in a vehicle and cited for making an illegal lane change.
