Several charges, including unlawful use of a weapon, were pending Thursday against a man, Bridgeview police said, after he crashed his car into a tree in the 9200 block of Harlem Avenue and pulled a gun.
Police said the man, whose name has not been released because no charges have been filed, was taken to Christ Hospital for a psych evaluation. Police responded to the crash just before noon Wednesday, May 27, and reported seeing the man with a gun in his hand.
The officer took cover behind his vehicle while watching the man and ordered him to drop the gun. The offender tossed the gun into the driver’s seat and walked around the vehicle coming into full view with his hands out.
The officer took the man to the ground and, with the help of a second officer, placed him in custody. Police said the offender made comments wishing to kill himself or force police to kill him.
