Just a girl and her ghouls. That’s how April Bisignani describes herself, but her Halloween display in Worth proves she’s much more than an ordinary decorator.
A prop maker and self-described extreme Halloweener, Bisignani transforms her home into The Kozy Kauldron, an imaginative Halloween attraction where vintage Las Vegas glitz meets spooky seasonal fun.
This year’s display puts a twist on the traditional haunted house, trading the usual graveyards, witches and pirates for a dose of 1950s kitsch and retro Vegas charm.
“I wanted to do something different though, and decided to incorporate my love of all things vintage to create a retro Las Vegas themed display with 1950s kitsch,” said Bisignani, the display’s owner, creative director and head ghoul.

The Kozy Kauldron opens Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 1 at 7112 W. 115th St. in Worth.
Visitors shouldn’t expect blood, gore or monsters leaping out from dark corners. Bisignani prefers a different kind of Halloween magic, one built around atmosphere, imagination and the little details that make people stop and look twice.
“My house isn’t your typical haunted house because it’s not designed to scare you,” she said. “Nothing will jump out at you and there’s no gore.”
Although she loves Halloween, Bisignani admits she isn’t a fan of scary movies. Instead, she focuses on creating spooky scenes that welcome visitors of all ages.
“Even though I love Halloween, I hate scary movies, so I focus instead on the spooky side of things,” she said. “I want my house to be approachable, so kids and adults alike can enjoy the display and feel safe. Because the world is scary enough right now.”
Her approach is less about frightening people and more about transporting them into another world. By layering props, decorations and carefully constructed scenes, she creates a movie-set-like experience that rewards visitors who take their time exploring.
And nearly everything is the work of one very determined woman.
Bisignani builds her own props, constructs sets, handles the electrical work and even decorates her roof. She also makes the costumes worn by the characters in her display, putting more than 45 years of sewing experience to work.
“I’m a one woman show and do everything myself, from constructing the sets to building props to running the electrical,” she said.
Her hands-on approach is part of what makes the display special. Rather than simply buying decorations and setting them out, she uses her creativity and practical skills to bring her ideas to life.
She also hopes her work challenges assumptions about who can build elaborate props and displays.
“I want to serve as a role model to show that girls and women can have mad skills too!” she said.
Bisignani didn’t set out to become a home haunter. She started by decorating for the holidays, but Halloween quickly became her favorite outlet for creativity.
She began seriously decorating for Halloween 11 years ago. Her hobby really took off in 2020, when she discovered Chicago Haunt Builders, a Facebook community of Halloween enthusiasts who design and build elaborate seasonal displays.
A member of Chicago Haunt Builders, Bisignani credits the group with helping her develop her skills and think bigger with her creations.
“Being a member of CHB has been inspirational and the members have been very helpful in bringing my skills to the next level,” she said.
The group has helped turn her interest into an ongoing creative challenge, with each Halloween bringing new opportunities to experiment and build something different.
This year, Bisignani is also using her display to support a cause close to the Halloween community. She is collecting donations for Skeletons for St. Jude, giving visitors an opportunity to contribute while enjoying the seasonal spectacle.
Bisignani said the fun comes from both the work that goes into the display and the chance to share it with her community. Every prop, costume and carefully arranged scene reflects the time and imagination she pours into her Halloween passion.
With its vintage Vegas vibes, spooky charm and homemade creations, The Kozy Kauldron offers a different kind of Halloween experience. There may be ghouls lurking about, but the real magic comes from one woman’s determination to bring her imagination to life.
