Chicago Police reported eight arrests in the 8th District this week. Cases include illegal weapons possession, drug trafficking, domestic battery, retail theft, sexual abuse of a child, car burglary, and assault.

Ronaldo Sotelo, 27, of the 5500 block of South Keeler Avenue

Man arrested with illegal gun and ammo after shots fired

Ronaldo Sotelo, 27, of the 5500 block of South Keeler Avenue, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. May 8 in the 2700 block of West 57th Street after police responded to shots fired in the 4500 block of South Paulina Street. Police said Sotelo had an outstanding warrant.

He faces felony charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine. He was also cited for using an alley as a through-way, wrong-way driving, multiple stop-sign violations and driving without insurance.

Sheldon Pittmon, 58, of the 5900 block of South Troy Street

Felon found with gun and drugs

Sheldon Pittmon, 58, of the 5900 block of South Troy Street, was arrested at 11:34 p.m. May 7 following a traffic stop in the 6500 block of South Talman Avenue. Police said they noticed suspicious activity in a parked car.

Pittmon was charged with armed violence, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession and sale of heroin, possession of cocaine and illegal transportation of alcohol in a vehicle.

2 face domestic battery charges in separate incidents

Matthew John Skafar, 64, was charged with domestic battery when police responded to a disturbance at his home in the 5600 block of South Nagle Avenue at 8 p.m. May 7. Police said he argued with a 40-year-old man, then grabbed him by the shirt and punched him several times in the head and face, causing cuts and bruises.

Robert Alex Mezza, 44, was charged with domestic battery when police arrested him at his home in the 6000 block of South Sacramento Avenue at 12:04 p.m. May 4. Police said he punched a 44-year-old woman in the face multiple times.

Man caught loading car with stolen merchandise

Salvador Correa Morales, 33, was charged with felony retail theft at Walgreens, 6315 S. Kedzie Ave., at 8:06 a.m. May 7. Police said he left the store through a rear door with merchandise worth more than $300 and was arrested as he loaded the items into a car nearby.

Emmanuel Elizondo, 33

Man charged with sexual abuse of a child

Emmanuel Elizondo, 33, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault following his arrest at his home in the 3300 block of West 66th Street at 6:20 a.m. May 11. Police said a 16-year-old girl reported that Elizondo had touched her inappropriately in 2017 and 2018, when she was seven or eight years old.

Joshua L. Thompson, 25, of the 17100 block of South Cicero Avenue in Country Club Hills

Alleged car burglar caught at scene

Joshua L. Thompson, 25, of the 17100 block of South Cicero Avenue in Country Club Hills, was charged with burglary in the 6900 block of South Pulaski Road at 12:30 a.m. May 11. Police who responded to a report of a car theft in progress said a witness reported seeing him getting in and out of a vehicle with a gasoline canister.

Thompson was also charged with possession of burglary tools for carrying a chisel.

Kyerra K. Cline, 29, of the 7100 block of South Rockwell Street

Armed woman charged in dispute over parking space

Kyerra K. Cline, 29, of the 7100 block of South Rockwell Street, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when police responded to a disturbance on that block at 4:35 p.m. May 10. Police said she pointed what appeared to be a handgun at another woman during a dispute over a parking space.

The weapon police found in her possession was an air gun that uses carbon-dioxide cartridges to shoot projectiles.
