The Chicago Park District board approved a free public viewing event on Thursday, June 18th at Midway Plaisance Park for up to 50,000 people to gather for the dedication of the Obama Presidential Center.
The event is free but requires pre-registration. The community will be notified via electronic message boards and door-knockers distributed to local businesses and residents. Organizers will hold a community engagement meeting later in June, though such meetings are not required for one-day events.
The approval was mentioned during the Department of Revenue’s presentation on special event permits at the board’s May 13 meeting.
