The Village of Brookfield has awarded two contracts totaling more than $10.4 million to complete the final phase of its lead service line replacement program — finishing a multi-year effort to eliminate lead from the village’s water system.
Trine Construction Corp. will do the work in two phases: Phase 1, covering 2027 work, totals $8 million. Phase 2 comes in at $2,345,300.
“Other villages are thinking about how to get started and we’re finishing up. It’s a credit to the board and staff and Hancock [Engineering],” Village President Michael Garvey said at the May 11 board meeting.
The lead service line replacement program has been a priority for the village as federal and state regulations have tightened around lead contamination in drinking water.
The project affects homes and buildings throughout Brookfield that were connected to the original water infrastructure.
Residents in affected areas will be notified of replacement schedules as work begins.
