The scent of fresh-baked bread drifts through the air as a guitar hums to life beneath the trees. Shoppers stroll with coffee in hand, weaving between stands piled high with strawberries, flowers and jars of golden honey. In Frankfort, Sunday mornings have slipped back into a familiar groove.

Even the weather could not get in the way. A light drizzle came and went throughout the morning, and a cool breeze swept across Breidert Green, but it did little to slow the crowd. Umbrellas opened, jackets zipped, and shoppers carried on.

The weekly market brings the community together for food, music and shopping.

The Frankfort Country Market has returned for its 2026 season and will run every Sunday through October 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. By the time the first hour rolled around this Sunday, the market was already buzzing with activity.

Set in the heart of downtown, the market stretches across Breidert Green, the Chamber lot and nearby parking areas, giving visitors plenty of space to browse and linger. Families, couples and longtime regulars moved from booth to booth, some with lists in hand, others simply taking it all in.

“It is kind of the unofficial kickoff to the season,” one shopper said while selecting a bouquet of tulips. “You know it is finally spring when the market is back.”

With nearly 70 vendors rotating through each week, the variety is part of the draw. Tables are filled with fresh produce, farm-raised meats, seafood and dairy, alongside baked goods, plants, honey and handcrafted items. Prepared foods add to the mix, making it just as easy to grab a bite as it is to stock up for the week. A knife sharpener, tucked among the vendors, offers a practical touch that regulars have come to appreciate.

By mid-morning, the sound of live music drifts across the green. Musicians take the stage from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing a laid-back soundtrack as children dance nearby and visitors pause to listen.

More than just a place to shop, the market has become a weekly gathering spot for the Lincoln-Way area. It is where neighbors catch up, local businesses build connections and visitors get a feel for the community.

The steady flow of foot traffic throughout the morning made one thing clear: rain or shine, the tradition holds strong.

The market continues each Sunday through late October, offering a dependable mix of local flavor, familiar faces and small surprises each week. Whether it is a quick stop or a slow stroll, the experience remains the same at its core.

Just follow the music.
