Bronislawa Komperda, a devoted mother and grandmother who immigrated from Poland to build a better life for her family, died April 24, 2026. She was 93.
She is survived by four children: Aniela Bula, Teresa Jankowicz, Jan Komperda and Marcin Komperda; nine grandchildren: Edyta, Magdalena, Tomasz, Monica, Alicia, Jessica, Nicole, Gabriela and Mateusz; and 15 great-grandchildren: Tomasz, Piotr, Zofia, Ania, Szymon, Laura, Alexandra, Isabela, Emilia, Layla, Franciszek, Julia, Lilliana, Ella and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan Komperda; her son, Franciszek Komperda; her parents, Jakub and Aniela Kowalkowski; her sister, Genowefa Hraca; and her brother, Jan Kowalkowski.
Komperda was born Bronislawa Kowalkowska. She survived World War II as a young child in Dlugopole, Poland, before immigrating to the United States in 1979 to build a better life for her family.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Ave., Justice, Illinois.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Mother of the Church Polish Mission, 116 Hilton St., Willow Springs, Illinois. Prayers and a procession will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m.
Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
