On April 9, 1925, 10 women met in the home of Mrs. Alfred L. Gross for the purpose of organizing a women’s Auxiliary to Peotone American Legion Post 392. The Unit charter was issued by the National Department on September 1, 1925, and signed by the Department of Illinois on September 11, 1925.

On Friday, September 12, at 1 p.m., at American Legion Post 392, 109 E. North Street, the American Legion Auxiliary, Peotone Unit 392, will celebrate 100 years of service to our military and veterans, their families, and our community, with a ceremony and light refreshments to follow.

Guests expected at the event include Peotone Mayor Chris Vieaux, who will present a proclamation from the Village of Peotone, and Jackie Haas, 79th District State Representative, who will present a proclamation from the State of Illinois to Peotone Unit 392 for their 100 years of service.

In addition, Carollee Junge, American Legion Auxiliary Department of Illinois Past Department President (2008-2009), will offer her congratulatory remarks, and members of American Legion Post 392 will be on hand to offer their thanks for the Unit’s years of service.

“The public is invited to celebrate with us,” said Paula Prium, publicity chair for the Auxiliary. “There’s a place in the Auxiliary for everyone, and we invite those who meet the membership requirements to join us in the spirit of service, not self. Our current Unit membership is diverse – our ages range from seven to 98, and our years of membership extend to 76 years.
