A few things have been breaking down in Palos Park recently, and the village council needs to spend close to $60,000 for repairs or replacement.
The council voted on July 13 on a set of improvements that were on Public Works and Streets Commissioner Rebecca Petan’s list.
Pumps provided the biggest headache for the village.
First up was a $7,441 bid to Romeoville-based Metropolitan Industries Inc. to rebuild a pump at the Ramsgate lift station.
“One of the pumps was not running properly and was replaced in April with council approval,” Petan said. “Public Works would like to have that pump rebuilt and used for a spare. The cost of a new pump is $22,310.”
Also on the pump front, one of the pumps at the Romiga lift station has not been running properly and recent heavy rains was making problems worse, according to Petan. So, the council agreed to purchase a $13,945 pump from Metropolitan Industries.
Yet another pump experienced recent woes. At the Kinvara lift station, a pump had seal problems, and the council voted to purchase a $9,999 replacement from Frankfort-based Flow Technics.
A pump problem of a different kind caused havoc with the HVAC as one of the pumps that feeds water into the HVAC boilers blew a seal on May 21 at the Kaptur Administrative Center and leaked water in the basement.
While that was getting repaired, it was discovered that one of the two control panels that control both cooling and heating in the building failed and needed replacement. The council voted to award Frankfort-based Building Automated Solution $7,900 to replace the panel.
Also in the Kaptur Center, in June, one of two outdoor compressors on the police station side of the building was not running properly and could not be repaired. The council awarded Mokena-based Comfort one $12,315 to replace the outdoor compressors, condensing fan and motor.
A snowplow blade for a Public Works truck has gone bad, and the board awarded Alsip-based Regional Truck Equipment $8,138 to replace it as well as accessories for the 2011 Ford F-550 truck.
Electric supply agreement
The council agreed to a 36-mointh fixed, all-in electric supply agreement with SmartestEnergy for the village’s 17 Commonwealth Edison-served municipal accounts.
It will be at a fixed rate of $0.7770 per kilowatt hours for all village facilities.
Officials said this will have no bearing on residents’ rates.
