Saint Xavier University on Chicago’s South Side continues to earn national recognition for its commitment to academic excellence and student success.
This year, U.S. News & World Report named SXU one of the “Best Value Schools,” a “Best Regional University,” and a top performer in “Social Mobility” among Midwestern universities.
SXU also received accolades in undergraduate education, including recognition for its computer science, business, and psychology programs. The university’s consistent ranking reflects its efforts to create access and opportunity for a diverse student body, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Deb Rapacz, the university’s vice president of marketing and communication, attributes this success to SXU’s dedication to personalized education and strong academic programs.
“Saint Xavier offers a small-school experience where students can build meaningful relationships with faculty, receive staff support, and create lasting connections with peers,” Rapacz said. “Our hands-on learning opportunities enable students to pursue their passions, prepare for successful careers, and graduate as compassionate leaders.”
SXU achieved national recognition for its undergraduate programs this year. The university was ranked among the “Best Undergraduate Computer Science Programs” for the first time, earned the “Best Undergraduate Business Programs” title for the third consecutive year, and retained its place in the “Best Undergraduate Psychology Programs” rankings for the second year.
This year also marks SXU’s sixth year as a top performer in “Social Mobility,” a distinction based on the university’s efforts to enroll and graduate Pell Grant recipients—students from low-income households—into profitable careers. Federally funded Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduates based on financial need and the cost of attendance.
Moreover, SXU has been classified as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) for seven consecutive years, further emphasizing its diverse student body. For nine straight years, SXU has ranked as a “Best Value School” in the Midwest, securing the No. 6 spot for 2025. U.S. News & World Report evaluates this ranking based on a school’s academic quality and the net cost of attendance after financial aid is applied.
SXU has also been designated a “Best College for Veterans,” a “Military Friendly School,” and a Yellow Ribbon institution—an honor for universities that partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs to help cover tuition and fees for veteran students.
“It is an honor to receive these rankings, which reinforce our commitment to providing students with a transformational educational experience,” Rapacz said. “Our faculty and staff work together to foster a vibrant community that supports our students during and beyond their college journey.”
