Football | Sandburg’s Shelton throws 4 TDs in rout of Oak Forest
Whenever his team needs a lift or a teammate needs a pat on the back, Anthony Shelton is there to provide it.
Shelton, Sandburg’s senior quarterback, can also throw touchdown passes.
On Sept. 6 in Orland Park, Shelton threw four of them as the Eagles defeated Oak Forest, 43-12.
Shelton was 15-of-16 passing for 283 yards.
“The best thing about Anthony is his resiliency,” Sandburg coach Troy McAllister said. “He’s able to go through different situations and adversity and respond. He gives us a chance to win football games with his experience.
“He’s a vocal young man who’s really taken on a leadership role. He takes control in the huddle and on the sidelines and makes sure that everyone is focused on the task at hand.”

Jeffrey Bellik caught scoring passes of 8 and 34 yards, and Charlie Snoreck and Lucas Dyra added touchdown receptions of 11 and 6 yards, respectively, for the Eagles (1-1).
Sandburg’s Jimarian Graham ran for a 79-yard touchdown and Kai Williams added an 18-yard scoring run.
Ryan Ward and Vincent Smith both picked off passes.
The Eagles were coming off a 27-17 loss to St. Rita in the season-opener. Sandburg shut out the Mustangs in the first half of that game.
“The kids really responded well and now we get into conference play,” McAllister said. “This was the response we needed this week.”
Sandburg hosts Homewood-Flossmoor this week in both teams’ first game in the new Southwest Valley Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 13.
