Now that it is mid-July, I wonder when the pumpkin lattes will start appearing?
My side of the West Elsdon neighborhood got a little greener on June 27th. Trees were planted along 58th and Springfield and 57th Place and Hamlin. A big truck carrying a load of trees was making the rounds. The tree on the corner of my block is a New Harmony Elm. The little dog “Nanny” on the corner I am sure will be happy with the new addition, along with most of the male dogs in the neighborhood, including our Ollie.

In the 23 Ward’s recent newsletter there are some helpful hints on how working together can make things better. One tiny pet peeve of mine was brought up. Please be courteous of neighbors when watering lawns. The sprinkler should not go over the sidewalk. I know its petty but I walk with my pushcart to the market and so many times I run into a sprinkler going full force over the sidewalk. So, let’s all be courteous and considerate with our sprinklers.
Mark your calendars for another night out in a neighborhood park. This time it’s Strohacker, 4347 W. 54th St. the Drum City Community Drum Circle will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Rhythm evolution NFP will bring you a unique rhythm experience at this free community drum circle. Bring your family and friends to enjoy an evening of music.
Happy Birthday to my neighbor Maria Orozco, who may be the best cook ever. Maria cooks for us at least once a week, and if not her, Juan, her husband will grill or make a sandwich.
Rumor has it that the Walgreens on 59th and Pulaski will soon be opening, if not already opened. I need to take a walk over that way to confirm this.
Finally, a quick reminder that this column is posted for you to read 24/7 at southwestregionalpublishing.com.
