I’m starting out with some fun news. The West Lawn Dog Park Advisory Council will be hosting a Fur of July Pet Parade on Saturday, June 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St.

There will be a pet parade starting at 11 a.m. at Woof Lawn Dog Park. In addition, there will be a prize for the best pet costume, a photo booth, vendors and raffles.

The West Lawn Branch Library at 4020 W. 63rd Street continues to host Yoga for Adults classes every Friday from 9:30 to 10:30am.  Enjoy the benefits of yoga.  All levels are welcome.  Equipment is provided.

West Lawn Library will be having a jewelry making workshop on Saturday, July 6 from 11am to 1pm.  Young people ages 6 to 19 years old are invited to create a necklace, bracelet, or earrings using beads and other materials.  Artisan Joy Joshua will guide the kids through the jewelry making process.  All skill levels are welcome.  Call the library at 312-747-7381 for registration information.

Every Tuesday at the Southwest Senior Senior Center after their luncheon around 11:30am, the one and only Roman Zabicki continues to lead seniors in drumming, rhythm, movement, and music.   Participants can choose percussion instruments to play, or dance to the music, or just watch and enjoy.   Music is the universal language and brings us all together.  The Senior Center is located at 6117 S. Kedzie. They provide many activities and services to all  seniors on the southwest side of Chicago.  Call for more information at 312-745-3349.

Here’s some old news.  Driving west on 63rd Street at Knox Avenue, the long abandoned strip mall looks more and more torn up and run down every day.  Going further west, you will see the Save-A-Lot  grocery store which is temporarily closed for remodeling.  The fence around it and the general outside construction look so ramshackle. It only adds to the general shabbiness of that stretch of 63rd Street.  This area is so close to Midway Airport.  I can’t imagine what tourists must think of our neighborhood when coming and going to the airport.  I’m glad that at least the Hotel Complex at Cicero and 63rd and nearby restaurants like Lou Malnati’s and Giordano’s always look so nice.

Here’s some good news.  Lawn Bowl at 6750 S. Pulaski is now hiring for a part time job as a kind of jack of all trades with responsibilities in auto pin setting and ball return machinery maintenance.  Call them at 773-582-2525.

The Jewel food store at 79th and Cicero is also hiring.  They have a variety of positions available in all departments.  Apply in person or call 708-422-5252.

Here’s some great news.  My youngest son, Joe and his wife Ellie are expecting a baby in the fall.  They recently invited me to their ultrasound appointment.  I saw the baby’s head and spine and hands curled in little fists.  I also saw quite clearly that the baby is definitely a boy!  I am so grateful to be included in this wonderful time in their lives. Such a miracle!  To Life!
