Fly the American flag proudly on Flag Day—Friday, June 14. This holiday commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States.
Happy Father’s Day to all the men in the community on June 16. This day is set to celebrate the contributions fathers and father figures make to their families and societies. (It also makes a good day to buy dad another set of socks or underwear, which I am sure the old ones are worn out from last year.)
Congratulations go to my neighbor, Dylan, on his kindergarten graduation from Peck Elementary School. The commencement was held on the last day of school, June 6. Balloons were flying for all the graduates. On June 4 the school held its awards ceremony, so congratulations to those that received awards for their hard work.
The Archer Heights Branch Library is offering a trip to the Art Institute on June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A round-trip bus will be provided where families will engage in an interactive guided tour. There will be art making activity in the museum’s private studio. This trip is for families with children ages 6 to 13. Space is limited to 22 participants. Please visit the library, 5055 S. Archer, and register at the front desk.
The Archer Heights Civic Association is not meeting during the months of July and August. Its summer, time for family and vacations but this does not mean that the organization is taking off. The officers and various committees will still be fulfilling their duties. The office answering machine will continue to be responded to as well. The one very high priority is pursuing a solution to the drag racing problems on Pulaski and Cicero.
Speaking of Cicero Avenue, it has been getting spruced up with some new street lights. The lights have been installed on the east side of Cicero from Archer going north to 50th Street. The lights provide extra illumination for the sidewalk. According to AHCA President Thomas S. Baliga, “The overall look is a clean, simple, but elegant profile that makes an outstanding statement on the street.” It remains to be determined if more lights will be replaced. There may be some answers at the next membership meeting.
The St. Bruno & Richard School seventh and eighth grade boys’ volleyball were great. They clinched the CPD 2024 Boys Volleyball Championship. Thank you to the coaches for their efforts and the team for its hard work.
Thank you to the parishioner volunteers of St. Bruno. A group of the volunteers spent time on May 25 to plant beautiful flowers in front of the church. A little community spirit and effort can make for something nice.
