Southwest Symphony presents ‘American Song Book’

Southwest Symphony Orchestra will perform “The American Song Book” this weekend at Trinity College in Palos Heights.
The performance will feature Grammy nominated Helen Welch under the direction of David Crane at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Christian College’s Ozinga Auditorium.
Welch will perform some of America’s best loved classics. The evening includes songs such as “Fever,” “At Last,” “Trolley Song,” “Wonderful World,” “Ella Medley,” “Just the Way You Look Tonight,” “Misty,” and “Strike Up the Band.”
A native of England, Welch began her career on television’s “Romper Room.” Since her early success, she has headlined with world-class organizations such as the BBC Big Band, Glenn Miller Europe, Opus One and others at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including: The Ritz, The Savoy, Blenheim Palace, The Grosvenor House Great Room, Claridges, and many theatres in London’s West End.
Additionally, she held starring roles in a variety of popular musicals including “Hello Dolly,” “Barnum,” “Carousel,” “42nd Street,” “Calamity Jane” and “Oliver Twist.”
After a very successful run in the UK, Welch relocated to the U.S. to guest star in the Broadway musical “Smokey Joe’s Cafe.”
This is Helen’s third appearance with The Southwest Symphony Orchestra.
The concert will be performed at Trinity Christian College’s Ozinga Auditorium, 6601 W. College Drive, Palos Heights.
Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 11.
Ticket prices are $7 for students, $25 to $30 for seniors, adults $30 to $35, children 10 and under are free. Tickets are available in advance and at the door.
