Moving right along through April, as the days get longer and nicer, time will start to go by faster. We have Earth Day on April 22 and the start of Passover at sunset. If it is a nice day, put on gloves, take a garbage bag and pick up around your neighborhood on Earth Day.
Passover is a seven-day holiday marking the Jewish Exodus from Egypt, also known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It is celebrated with holiday meals and special prayers.
For this week, happy birthday wishes go out to Jolene Young.
Certificates for free eye exams and glasses will be handed out at the Archer Heights Branch Library, 5055 S. Archer. This is provided from VSP and the Lions Club and will be distributed on Saturday, May 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.
There are income eligibility requirements. A single member household’s annual income must be at or below $25,760 and you can add $9,080 for each additional member. You must not have used the program for the last 12 months. Visit the librarian or chipublib.org for more information.
“I Want to Dance With Somebody,” sang Whitney Houston and Madonna wanted to “Express Herself” back in the eighties. If you want to dance with someone while expressing yourself, Sts. Bruno & Richard School (SBRS) Hall, 5025 S. Kenneth, is the place to be. A Taking it Back to the Eighties dance party will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $30 at the door or $25 in advance.
Congratulations to the SBRS students and the religious formation students who recently made their confirmation. A total of 63 individuals received the sacrament on March 21. Students from St. Turibius Religious Education program will be making their confirmation on April 26.
A resource of interest popped up in my alderman’s newsletter. If you are caring for a spouse, parent, relative or friend who is a Chicago resident age 60 or over, or under 60 with Alzheimer’s disease, there is a caregiver services program available.
