I love a parade. I just want to stand and cheer as they come. The rat-a-tat-tat, the blare of their horns…I sing this song every Monday through Friday at 8:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.
The parade I am referring to is the endless stream of cars with parents and guardians dropping off/picking up their loved ones for Peck School. I know not to even think of leaving my home, or coming home at those times because it is impossible.
The horn blowing at 8:15 a.m. really does not help the situation. But thankfully, much of the chaos was alleviated when the streets surrounding the perimeter of the school turned to one way.
If you live in Archer Heights around Edwards School, it appears you are experiencing the same dilemma. But per the Archer Heights Civic Association’s newsletter, progress is being made with the traffic congestion. Alderman Gutiérrez, Principal Bermejo and AHCA’s Tom Baliga, along with area residents, have been meeting to discuss various solutions including a drop-off/pick-up lane, wooden horses and traffic cones.
The AHCA is once again looking for volunteers (dads?) to help with their annual Easter egg hunt. The hunt is scheduled for Archer Heights children on Saturday morning, March 30. If you are interested, please call (773) 843-2232 and leave a message.
The next meeting of the AHCA is this Wednesday, Feb.14. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and is held in the St. Richard Church Hall, 50th and Kostner. There will be some Valentine’s door prizes for some members who come out.
The Chicago Fire Department was handing out smoke detectors in the Garfield Ridge community after an unfortunate fire. In 23rd Ward Ald. Silvana Tabares’ newsletter it is indicated if you need a smoke detector, please reach out to the 23rd Ward office.
Sts. Bruno & Richard Parish once again will be hosting the famous Lenten dinners every Friday during Lent. They will take place at St. Richard church hall, beginning on the first Friday of Lent, Feb. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. No reservations are required. Dine in or take-out is available.
This weeken, the Polish community of St. Turibius will be selling paczki after the Masses. I just might have to treat myself, along with visiting my favorite bakery for some. I also love to treat my Hispanic neighbors (who have done so much for us) to those Polish delights.
