Cold is the topic of the day, that’s for sure. What did we talk about before the arctic temperatures of last week? It does get cold every year. Some years are colder than others.
This is nothing new, but I think TV news does like to spin it into something we should all go into a panic about. Don’t panic. Panic brings fear. Fear makes us vulnerable. We can be better than that. We can make decisions based on intelligence instead of fear. Maybe it’s time to turn off the TV weather reports.
It is winter. It is cold. We will deal with it as we do every winter.
There is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
If you had to go out in the arctic air last week, you may have come across some businesses that had to close their doors. One business that remained open was Windy City Hot Dogs, 4205 W. 63rd St. If you had to wait for the 63rd Street bus or walk home from school, it was good to know you could go to Windy City and grab a meal to eat there or to go. They are open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day except Sunday. Dependable and delicious!

Another business that remained open was PRO-Cutz barber shop, 3746 W. 63rd St. They remained open during the coldest of days. No matter what the weather, it is good to keep up with grooming and looking your best. They have special prices for kids, too. You can make an appointment by calling (773) 949-1686, but walk-ins are always welcome.
Do you know a teenager who loves the Dungeons and Dragons game? Every Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., has a game session for teens ages 13-19, to play this popular role-playing game. Beginners are welcome. No experience necessary. Call the library at (312) 747-7381 for more information.
Save the date. St. Nicholas of Tolentine School will be hosting their annual Spring Fling Scholarship Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 9. All proceeds will benefit their scholarship programs. The Spring Fling will be held at European Chalet, 5445 S. Harlem. Cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m. Dinner and dancing begins at 7 and goes to 11 p.m. Call (773) 735-0772 for information on prices and to reserve your ticket.
Did you know that West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St., has a Senior Club for those over age 65? The club meets every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon. They play board games, cards and bingo. Sounds like fun! Call for more information at (773) 284-2803. You can register in person or online at chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks-facilities/west-lawn-park.
Thank you everyone for your texts last week. Special thanks to Bernie for letting me know about the new Domino’s Pizza place at 6433 S. Pulaski. When they are up and running, Domino’s will be open every day at 10:30 a.m. Closing time is midnight on Sunday through Thursday and 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
