At its meeting on Tuesday, January 9, the Kankakee County Board passed a resolution declaring Kankakee County is a non-sanctuary immigration county.
Board Chairman Andy Wheeler said “so the State of Illinois takes away our ability to be a part of a system that upholds the law, but now the City of Chicago and the state are asking for money from the federal government to break the law. It doesn’t make sense. There’s a human cost to this. They don’t deserve to be treated like pawns in political games.”
Wheeler said every bus load of migrants dropped off requires taxpayer dollars, reducing resources for other county needs.

  1. Disgusting….new members to community could only help the horrible city of Kankakee!! Disgusted that they don’t see value. See how fast businesses close and reduce hours, longer wait times for services that none but the immigrants will do…oh that’s right…unless you are native we are all immigrants….

  2. Sounds like someone was counting on slave labor wages and conditions being accepted by migrants (known business). The rest of the county is grateful for this decision. Vote appropriately and we wont have a migrant crisis to speak of.
