Happy New Year everyone! Welcome the new and say goodbye to the old. Each year comes and goes. The old fades away. The new arrives but before long it too becomes the old. This is the way of life.
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of God remains forever. (Isaiah 40:8).
The Calvary Lutheran Senior Club would like to extend happy birthday wishes to Norma, Pat N. and Pat L. on their January birthdays. May the dear Lord bless each of you lovely ladies with a happy day and healthful year.

This is an election year. Before we know it, we will be voting on the candidates we feel will do the best job representing us. Some of our seniors and others will need to obtain an absentee ballot. Normally, I tell people to call their alderman’s office. However, one of my neighbors called me to let me know that he did call his alderman and was told that someone would get back to him. No one ever did. I hope all our citizens will be able to vote this year.
West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St., has a Senior Citizens Club for those over 60 years old. According to the Chicago Park District website, registration is required. Call the park for more information.
Chicago Public Schools will be hosting neighborhood meetings to discuss the state of all their school facilities. The meetings will give people a chance to make suggestions on improvements. The meeting for Southwest Side schools will take place at Curie High School, 4959 S. Archer, on Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The next meeting of the West Lawn Conservation Club will take place at the West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., on Monday, Jan. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to join this dedicated group of neighbors focused on plants, seeds and a new community garden.
I heard there will be a new Domino’s Pizza opening soon at 6433 S. Pulaski. I haven’t been able to find out the opening date. I even emailed the main Domino’s office. I think West Lawn already has the best pizza known to mankind. We have Palermo’s, Paisans, Big Tony’s, Lou Malnatti’s, Cholie’s, Pop n’ Pizza and Giordano’s. However, I also think more pizza is always a good thing. If I left out your favorite West Lawn pizza place, let me know.
