It was a packed house at Christ Community Church, 103 W. Corning in Peotone, on Saturday, April 14, as AWANA clubbers, volunteers, family, and friends participated in the annual AWANA Grand Prix event. Clubbers and leaders competed with their handmade race cars for speed and creativity, with trophies awarded in both categories.
Two vintage show cars provided by the Peotone Car Club greeted attendees at the door and set the tone for the day. Fresh popcorn, hot dogs, and other treats were furnished by the church. Race-themed decor could be found throughout the building, including a finish line photo booth, where clubbers could take photos with their cars.
Prior to the race, door prizes were given out, and the gospel message was shared by AWANA leader Matt Wessman. Peotone Boy Scout Troop 315 loaned their track for the day, and Dawn Ramariz volunteered her time to serve as official race time keeper.
