State Police issue 30 tickets during safety check
From staff reports
The Illinois State Police issued 30 tickets ranging from seat-belt violations to drunken driving during a roadside safety check held at the 95th Street toll plaza in Oak Lawn April 15-16.
The detail was conducted on the Tri-State Tollway northbound at the 95th Street Toll Plaza in Oak Lawn by District 15 officers.
Alcohol is involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois. Safety checks are designed to remove alcohol-impaired drivers. However, when other violations are observed such as driving with a suspended or revoked license, operating a vehicle without a valid registration or insurance or safety belt violations, enforcement action may be taken.
The following enforcement action was issued at the safety check:
Driver’s license offenses: 8 citations, 7 warnings
Occupant restraint offenses: 5 citations
Insurance violations: 10 citations
Alcohol related offenses: 2 citations
Gun and Drug arrests: 1 each
This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
