Joan Hammerstein, nee Bell, of Palos Hills, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 13.

She was the beloved wife of John for over 60 years; loving mother of Cheryl (Bruce) Gianpetro, Cindy (John) Siperly and Mark (Brigid) Hammerstein; cherished grandmother of Maria and Nate Gianpetro, Eric, Austin, Luke, and Jack Siperly and Francesca Hammerstein; great-grandmother of Autumn and Isabella Siperly; daughter of the late Ozell Sielecki nee Warren; sister of Barbara, Linda, and the late Merle and Harold.

She was employed by Christ Hospital as a registered nurse for over 20 years.

Joan’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, enjoying many family get-togethers, and attending various sporting and school events for her grandchildren.

Joan enjoyed spending time with John and family at their cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She will be missed by all who loved her and knew her.

Visitation was March 15 and her funeral was March 16 from Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Highway, Palos Hills, to Sacred Heart Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Maria was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters. She was a dear aunt and great aunt to many.

Evelyn Romolt (nee Goldberg), age of 92, passed away suddenly February 26.

Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Oscar, having been married for 64 years. She was the daughter of the late Esther and Harry; sister to the late Clarence, Allen “Sonny”, and Henrietta; dear sister-in-law of the late Ben, Abe, Clara, and Veta. Her greatest joy was being a mother to Ray (Shelly), Curtis (Christine), and the late Bennett. Evelyn’s grandchildren Courtney, Lauren (Jake), Caitlin, and Maddie, were a constant source of pride. She was thrilled when her great granddaughter, McKenzie arrived.

Jim was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a lieutenant. He was an active member of Reber Tesmond VFW Memorial Post 2604, Village of Orland Park Veterans Commission, and Veteran’s Voices.

He was a retired attorney in a private law partnership, during which time he argued a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was the husband of Donna Boddy nee Stapel; father of Amanda “Mandy” Thompson; step dad of Craig (Laurie) Boddy M.D.; brother of Marilyn (John) Birchall and Betty Ann Thompson; son-in-law of of Alice Stapel; brother-in-law of Gail (Dave) Tropeck, Douglas Stapel, and Kim (Jeff) Pozza; uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on March 27 at Thornridge Funeral Home in Orland Park. Funeral Mass will be held on March 28 at St. Michael Church in Orland Park. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
