It took until Week 3 for Mount Carmel to play a team from the Chicago area.
It was well worth the wait for the Caravan, who defeated visiting Nazareth 35-7 on Sept. 4.
Mount Carmel lost to East St. Louis in its opener and defeated St. Joseph Regional of New Jersey in Week 2.
Running back Nathan Samuels, a Lindenwood commit, anchored Mount Carmel’s offense against the Roadrunners as he rushed for 168 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. Samuels’ TDs covered 59 and 9 yards.
He wasn’t the only contributor for the Caravan (2-1). Quarterback Brady Cloherty (12 carries, 30 yards) scored on a 3-yard run and also completed scoring passes to Quentin Burrell (15 yards) and Duran Sims (1 yard). He finished 7 of 17 for 45 yards.
For Nazareth (1-2), JJ Chapman connected with Jackson Flickinger on a 12-yard TD toss with 5:54 to play. Chapman was 9-of-20 passing for 73 yards.
Notre Dame commit Roman Igwebuike led the way defensively for Mount Carmel with eight tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss. Caleb Tucker added six tackles, one TFL and one forced fumble.
Bradley-Bourbonnais 47, Stagg 0: John Chowaniec completed 9 of 17 passes for 56 yards for host Stagg (1-2, 0-1 SouthWest Suburban).
Carmel 21, St. Laurence 14: Noah Taylor ran for a touchdown and completed a TD pass to Dakari Simmons for visiting St. Laurence (0-3).
Lyons 48, Morton 0: Jack Williams accounted for 115 yards rushing and two TDs and EJ Kuhlman added 59 yards rushing and two scores for host Lyons (3-0). Caiden Kovel finished with 62 yards rushing and a TD, while Brendan McCabe threw a 6-yard TD pass to KB Barnes for the Lions. Morton is 0-3.
Montini 35, Marist 28: Conor Hunt (18 carries, 112 yards) scored on runs of 1 and 10 yards for host Marist (2-1). Jake Fleming (20 of 29 passing, 163 yards, two TDs) threw TD passes to his brother Conor (eight catches, 84 yards) and Chase Tylka.
Lincoln-Way West 31, Andrew 6: Jimmy Reilly connected with Ian Lopez on a 17-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter for visiting Andrew (1-2, 0-1 SouthWest Suburban). Lopez finished with six catches for 76 yards and all of Reilly’s completions were to him.
Loyola 31, St. Rita 0: Visiting St. Rita (1-2) had a sack and forced fumble from Michigan State commit Ohimai Ozolua. Doniven Campbell ran 10 times for 54 yards for the Mustangs.
Riverside-Brookfield 48, West Chicago 14: Braeden Novak threw a pair of 28-yard TD passes to James Organ as visiting Riverside-Brookfield (2-1, 1-0 Upstate Eight East) won easily. Nico Caputo scored on runs of 8 and 3 yards, Tyler Schultz chipped in an 11-yard run, Gideon Bradford had a 1-yard run and Novak collaborated with Tim Giacomelli on a 74-yard TD toss for the Bulldogs.
Sandburg 37, Thornwood 14: Host Sandburg improved to 3-0 as Sean Ruisz threw a 9-yard TD toss to Army commit Quinn Durkin and a 5-yard TD to Northern Illinois commit Lucas Matykiewicz. Durkin added a 60-yard TD run, while Vinny Annel also scored on a run. Jake Tomczak had an interception return for an Eagles touchdown.
Shepard 28, Eisenhower 0: Aarien Lee carried 12 times for 183 yards and three TDs for Shepard (2-1, 1-0) in the South Suburban Red.
