Barbara J. Kessler, 88, of Hickory Hills, Illinois, passed away on August 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
She was born on May 28, 1938, in Chicago to Edna and Lloyd Neal, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up with a strong sense of family and carried those values throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Kessler, and by her siblings, Jack Neal, Donald Neal, and Florine Funke.
Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family meant everything to her. She is survived by her son, Damon Lynn Cooke, and her daughter, Kimberly Jean Cooke; her grandchildren, Steven Cooke, Terri Niersbach, Jessica Cooke, and Shannon Mabrito; and her great-grandchildren, Shelby Niersbach, Emily Mabrito, Savanna Niersbach, Nicholas Cooke, and Brooklyn Mabrito. Barbara took great pride in her family and found joy in their accomplishments and the simple moments they shared together.
She worked for Pepsodent for many years, known for her dedication and steady work ethic. She approached her responsibilities with care and reliability, earning the respect of those who worked alongside her.
Outside of work, Barbara enjoyed camping at Indian Creek Ranch and playing bingo. She found joy in togetherness, laughter, and the comfort of familiar traditions. Those who knew her remembered her as loving, wise, and selfless — someone with a kind heart and a gentle way of making others feel valued.
