It’s hard to tell from the final score, but Goode had to come from behind three times in its season opener against visiting Comer on Aug. 21.
But the Knights had plenty of offensive fireworks en route to setting a program record for scoring in a 73-48 victory.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do on defense,” Goode coach Terrence McClarn said. “I told my offensive coordinator, ‘We’ve got to keep going. These guys (Comer) ain’t gonna quit.'”
Junior quarterback Jordan Boston, who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3 last year, had a big game in his return for the Knights.
He was 4-for-4 passing for 110 yards with two touchdowns and ran 22 times for 160 yards and three more TDs.
Senior Aedan Cleveland ran back the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown and rushed 12 times for 49 yards and two TDs.
The Knights graduated Quaylen Dobbs, who ran for a program-record 23 touchdowns last season. But it looks like they have another productive back to pair with Cleveland in junior Caron Williams, who had 11 carries for 75 yards and two scores and also caught a TD pass.
The importance of having Boston back can’t be overestimated.
“Huge impact,” McClarn said. “I didn’t realize Jordan had that many yards till I watched the film and did the stats.”
Hubbard 46, Bogan 14: Hubbard led 20-6 at halftime and pulled away in the final two quarters.
Jaylen Brown ran a kickoff back 75 yards for a Bogan touchdown and Aaron Cacaras threw a 37-yard TD pass to Xavier Terrell.
Kennedy 1, Clemente 0: The Crusaders picked up a forfeit win.
Vocational 6, Back of the Yards 0: Richard Garcia, Alex Rodriguez and Victor De La Garza had takeaways to lead the Back of the Yards defense.
