Summit Public Library welcomed the Chicago Bears mascot, Staley, on Saturday, August 22, for an hour-long meet-and-greet that turned into a lucky break for one family.
A mother and her 3-year-old son, Jackson, stopped by the library around 10:30 a.m. for an unrelated appointment. Jackson was already dressed in Bears gear—the team was playing the Bengals in preseason that afternoon—when the Library Director spotted them and mentioned Staley was there.
“This was great,” the mother said. “We just happened to be in the area for an appointment and came in the library. We got to meet Staley and won four passes to the Botanic Garden.”
About 30 to 40 people attended the event, now an annual tradition. Games and raffles filled the hour, with photos alongside Staley as the main draw. Olivia Morgucz, the library’s Program Coordinator and Head of Youth Services, organized the raffles and giveaways.
