Lieutenant Jeff Keilman was recently promoted to deputy chief of the Hodgkins Police Department, surrounded by village officials, colleagues, friends and family.

Keilman, a southeast Chicago native and St. Rita High School graduate, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002 and served until 2005. He completed a combat tour in Iraq in 2003 with the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell.

After leaving military service, Keilman earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Governor’s State University in University Park.

He joined the Hodgkins Police Department in 2007 and quickly moved into special assignments and investigative work. In 2012, he earned a master’s degree in public safety administration from Lewis University and entered the department’s Investigations Division, where he worked largely alone solving cases for Hodgkins and assisting neighboring towns through the Major Cases Assistance Team and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

Keilman was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2016 and graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Staff and Command in 2017. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2021, overseeing investigations and administrative duties until his recent promotion.
