The Miller Street construction project in Beecher will not interfere with this weekend’s Independence Day celebration.
Public Works Superintendent Matt Conner said at the June 22 village board meeting that everything will be normal for the holiday weekend.
“The roadway will be open for the Fourth of July fest,” he said. “Everything will be functional as far as parking and getting the rides in and out of the park.
“After the festivities, they will pick it back up after that.”
The four-day festival opened July 1 with a kid and pet parade.
On July 2, the festival market opens at Firemen’s Park at 6 p.m. and bingo will also be offered then. The band Rearview — a Pearl Jam tribute band — will play at 8 p.m.
On July 3, the festival market and 4-H Expo each open at 2 p.m., the chamber of commerce pork chop dinner takes place at 4 p.m., bingo opens at 6 p.m. and Infinity performs at 8 p.m.
On July 4, Lions Club Freedom 5K starts at 8 a.m., the festival market opens at 2 p.m., a parade takes place at 4 p.m., bingo start at 6 p.m., the Juke Box Heroes perform at 8 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Raffle drawings conclude the fest at 11 p.m.
More fests
The board approved a motion approving a request from the Beecher Lions Club to use Gould Street between Indiana Avenue and Hodges Street to hold it Sept. 6 All American Day Event.
It will include a car show, farmer’s market plus other family and patriotic activities.
President Joe Burgess told the board it will be similar to the past festivals the Lions Club has held.
“There’s nothing crazy – it’s pretty much going to be a repeat of last year,” he said. “We’ll have more family-style stuff again. More kids’ stuff.
“With our car show, we’re anticipating (more than 100) cars up and down the street because we are offering some pretty good prize money. But it’s pretty much the same scope as last year.”
The board also approved a permit for Washington Township to host a community resource fail on Aug. 8 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Firemen’s Park. Organizers anticipate 300 people will attend.
It also approved a permit to the Lions Club for a Halloween in the Park event from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Firemen’s Park.
