Micaela De Los Santos

Micaela De Los Santos, a longtime resident of Bridgeport and McKinley Park who worked at the American Can Company during World War II, died Monday, June 1, in the early morning hours.

Mrs. De Los Santos was born and raised in Eastland, Texas. As a young woman, she moved with her family to Chicago, settling in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. She later worked at Unique Thrift Store.

She was the wife of the late Nicolas De Los Santos and the mother of Daniel, Nancy (Daniel Reza), Nick, Gloria, Rose (Joseph Gonzalez), and Steve. She raised her children to be devout Catholics and good citizens, teaching them to be respectful and to care for each other.

She is survived by her sister, Corrine Jimenez; eight grandchildren: Danny Jr., Elizabeth, Nick Jr., Christina, Dylan, Hayven, Rachel, and Alyssa; and two great-grandchildren: Daniel III and Alex. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews: Jessica, Rita, Lynda, Melynda, Jesse, Jody, Dina, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Nicholas; her daughter, Gloria; and her siblings Lucille Harnish, Connie Patino, Heneritta Francisco, Israel Arkie, and Ramon Arkie.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Avenue. A eulogy and sharing of memories will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service in celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
