The steady rumble of engines and the shine of polished chrome filled the parking lot Thursday night as dozens of classic cars rolled into Glenn Maker Post 1160 in Chicago Ridge for another weekly Cruise Night gathering.

More than 80 vehicles lined the lot outside the American Legion post, 10739 Ridgeland Ave., on May 28, drawing car enthusiasts, families and curious visitors who wandered row by row admiring everything from vintage muscle cars to restored cruisers.

More than 80 classic cars filled Glenn Maker Post in Chicago Ridge for Cruise Night, featuring food, music and community.

Among the proud owners showing off their vehicles was Joe Spinazzola, of Alsip, who brought his 1956 Mercury Montclair to the event. Nearby, Mark Winge, of Palos Hills, displayed his 1940 Plymouth Coupe, while Robert Velquza, of Chicago Ridge, had his 1970 Pontiac GTO on display.

The weekly event, held every Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m., has become a summertime tradition in the southwest suburbs, offering a casual place for neighbors to gather and share their love of classic automobiles.

The smell of grilled food drifted through the crowd as hot dogs and hamburgers from Jack and Pat’s Butcher Shop were cooked on-site and sold throughout the evening. Guests also had access to a cash bar inside the post.

Owners spent the evening swapping stories, answering questions and proudly showing off years of restoration work while music played in the background and spectators snapped photos beside the vehicles.

Organizers said Cruise Nights will continue weekly through Halloween, when the season wraps up with a trunk-or-treat celebration.
