A 32-year-old man told Willow Springs police that three men who allegedly worked for a construction company began tearing his roof off without his authorization, police said.

The man was cutting his grass in the 200 block of Kazwell Street at 5 p.m. April 27 when he was approached by two men who said they would replace his roof for $8,500, police said.

The man told them to return on April 21 with a written quote, police said.

That morning, he heard loud noises and stepped outside to see three men tearing shingles off his roof, police said.

All three had Irish accents, he told police. He asked what they were doing and they said they were there to remove his old roof and replace it with a new roof.

The man said he never got a quote, never signed a contract, and ordered the men to stop working.

The three men came down from the roof and went on their way, police said. A lieutenant searched the area but did not see the two vans they were driving, one of which had Arizona license plates, police said.
