The Palos Heights Police Department is asking residents to cast their votes in a national scholarship competition that could help provide advanced leadership training for the department’s command staff through the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety.
The department was selected as a finalist for the Elevate Blue Scholarship opportunity, a program that awards a voucher covering the cost of a management course through Northwestern University’s nationally recognized public safety training program. According to Deputy Chief John Parnitzke, the scholarship would support continued professional development and leadership advancement within the department.
“We have a long tradition of sending our command staff to the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command,” Parnitzke said. “This voucher would cover the cost of this training.”
The scholarship competition is decided through public voting, and Parnitzke said the Palos Heights Police Department is the only local law enforcement agency among the finalists. Department officials are encouraging residents and readers throughout the southwest suburbs to participate by voting online or scanning the QR code associated with the contest.
The Northwestern University Center for Public Safety is widely known for its executive-level law enforcement training programs, including the School of Police Staff and Command, which prepares police leaders for management and administrative roles within their agencies. Programs offered through the center focus on leadership development, organizational management, policy, ethics and modern policing strategies.
